Welcome to Year 1
Year 1 are very lucky to have 2 teachers this year, Mrs Burrow (Monday-Wednesday) and Miss Owen (Wednesday afternoon - Friday). Our classroom is a happy and positive place where we have lots of fun learning new things.
If you have any queries or concerns, please feel free to email the office at admin@saintmaryscongleton.co.uk and they will pass on the message.
Additionally, weekly updates and any information will be posted on the Class Dojo stories.
Topic mats
Phonics
We use the 'Monster Phonics' programme for teaching Phonics and early reading. Parents are able to access this at home, and reinforce their learning between school and home.
In June, Year 1 children have a Phonics Screening check. To prepare them for this, we practise phonics daily and read lots of real/nonsense ('alien') words. Children are expected to read at home daily, in order to support their progress.

Our class book for Autumn 1 is 'Meesha makes Friends'. We will be concentrating on sentence structure and using our phonics to spell. We are working towards writing a diary entry from the perspective of Meesha.
Our class reading book for Autumn 2 is 'Katie in London.' We will be continuing our sentence work and using the conjunction 'and' to extend our sentences. We are working towards writing an information text about London.
Maths
This term we will be focussing on place value and addition and subtraction within 10.
