My name is Miss Owen and I am your class teacher. Our classroom is a happy and positive place where we have lots of fun learning new things.

Phonics
We use the 'Monster Phonics' programme for teaching Phonics and early reading. Parents are able to access this at home, and reinforce their learning between school and home.
In June, Year 1 children have a Phonics Screening check. To prepare them for this, we practise phonics daily and read lots of real/nonsense ('alien') words. Children are expected to read at home daily, in order to support their progress.

Our class book for Spring 1 is 'The Lion Inside'. The children will learn how to use question marks and exclamation marks as well as recapping their learning so far to write a story of a small animal who befriends a bigger animal.
Our class book for Spring 2 is 'Beegu'. We will be continuing our sentence work and learning to add the conjunction 'and' to combine clauses.
