My name is Miss Owen and I am your class teacher. Our classroom is a happy and positive place where we have lots of fun learning new things.

Phonics
We use the 'Monster Phonics' programme for teaching Phonics and early reading. Parents are able to access this at home, and reinforce their learning between school and home.
In June, Year 1 children have a Phonics Screening check. To prepare them for this, we practise phonics daily and read lots of real/nonsense ('alien') words. Children are expected to read at home daily, in order to support their progress.

Our class book for Autumn 1 is 'Meesha makes Friends'. We will be working towards writing simple sentences with capital letters, finger spaces and full stops to write a diary entry.
Our class reading book for Autumn 2 is 'Katie in London'. We will be continuing our sentence work and learning to add the conjunction 'and' to sentences.

This half term we will be learning:
Place value to 10
Addition and subtraction to 10
Place value to 20
