Eco Council
At Saint Mary's our Eco Council aims to ensure our school is eco friendly and environmentally conscious. Our Eco Council work hard on many projects both for the school, the wider community and the planet. The children work together, create ideas and complete projects that leave lasting benefits.
We are proud of our school's success in achieving the Eco Green Flag Award.
Each year we cover different topics to ensure that we cover a wide range of projects and create an engaging, hands- on approach to sustainability within our school life. This year's three focus topics are:
- Biodiversity
- Global Citizenship
- Transport
What does the Eco Council do?
Throughout the year the Eco Council will be fundraising for local charities. Our Eco Council have helped to organise donated resources to be sent to schools in Nigeria and a harvest collection for the local food bank. In the coming Spring term we will be exploring how we travel to school and will be completing a walk to school week and examining outside school parking, with a safety focus. The Eco Council regularly engage with the school catering team to understand where our food is sourced from and generate ideas to promote sustainability in our school meals.
