At Saint Mary’s Catholic Primary School, we are committed to providing an inclusive education where every child is valued, supported and given the opportunity to thrive.
We recognise that children learn and develop in different ways. We aim to identify additional needs early, work closely with children and their families, and ensure that appropriate support is put in place.

If you have concerns about your child’s learning, development or progress, please speak to your child’s class teacher in the first instance.
Our Special Educational Needs and Disabilities Coordinator (SENDCo) is Mrs Waters.
Our SEND Governor is Mrs Joyce Richards.
The SENDCo can be contacted through the school office.
How do we support children with additional needs?
At Saint Mary’s, inclusion begins in the classroom. All children receive high-quality, inclusive teaching and have access to Ordinarily Available Inclusive Provision (OAIP).
Teachers continually assess children’s learning and development and adapt their teaching, resources and the learning environment to meet the needs of their pupils.
Where concerns arise, we work with the child and their parents or carers to understand their strengths and needs. Appropriate strategies and support are put in place and progress is monitored and reviewed.
Where a child is identified as having Special Educational Needs, they will receive SEN Support. This may include targeted support, adaptations or interventions and, where appropriate, advice from specialist professionals.
The Graduated Approach
We follow the Graduated Approach to identifying and supporting children with SEND. This is a continuous cycle of:
ASSESS – identifying the child’s strengths, needs and barriers to learning.
PLAN – agreeing appropriate outcomes, strategies and support.
DO – putting the agreed support into place.
REVIEW – reviewing progress and the impact of the support provided.
Children and their parents or carers are involved throughout this process.
Working Together
We believe that working closely with children and their families is central to effective SEND provision.
Parents and carers know their children best and we value their knowledge and views. Children are also encouraged and supported to share their views and be involved in decisions about their learning and support.
