Year 1
Welcome to Year 1
I am Miss Lankester, the Year 1 teacher at Saint Mary's. Our classroom is a happy and positive place where we have lots of fun learning new things.
If you have any queries or concerns, please feel free to email me at year1@saintmaryscongleton.co.uk.
Additional weekly updates will be posted on the Saint Mary's X (Twitter) page: http://twitter.com/saintmaryscon
Phonics
We use the 'Monster Phonics' programme for teaching Phonics and early reading. Parents are able to access this at home, and reinforce their learning between school and home.
In June, Year 1 children have a Phonics Screening check. To prepare them for this, we practise phonics daily and read lots of real/nonsense ('alien') words. Children are expected to read at home daily, in order to support their progress.
Below are some really useful resources to help support your child's learning!

Homework
Homework is set weekly each Friday and is due in the following Friday. Children will be given a set of spellings based on weekly phonics learning. Maths homework will be set online on MyMaths. LearningWithParents activities will be set fornightly.
Children should read their MonsterPhonics books daily at home. This should be logged in their reading records. They are required to read their book fully at least three times, before changing books.
